Renault’s Upcoming Premium SUVs to Offer Petrol, Hybrid, and CNG Options
Renault is planning to launch two new premium SUVs – the Duster and Bigster – in India. At first, they will come with regular petrol engines, and within a year, hybrid versions will also be introduced to give better mileage. The goal is to offer options for both budget buyers and those looking for fuel-efficient cars.
In Europe, the Duster Hybrid uses a 1.6-litre petrol engine with an electric motor and gives a mileage of 20 km/l. There's also talk of a 4×4 version that might come later, with electric motors powering the rear wheels.
The Bigster Hybrid uses a bigger 1.8-litre petrol engine with the same electric motor and offers even better mileage at 21 km/l. Even though it’s larger and more powerful, it remains fuel-efficient. The India version of the Bigster will likely have three rows of seats, unlike the two-row European model.
Renault might also offer CNG versions of both SUVs, as CNG demand is rising in India. The company already sells CNG kits for cars like the Kwid, Kiger, and Triber, and may offer factory-fitted CNG for Duster and Bigster.
Production of the new Duster will start in September 2025, with launch expected in early 2026. The Bigster could be launched in late 2026, competing with SUVs like the Hyundai Alcazar.
